Sawing
Once the diamond has been marked, it becomes the Sawyer's task to separate the diamond into two parts. Each marked diamond has a line drawn around it, which the Sawyer must saw through exactly. The sawing blade is a very thin phosphor bronze plate rotating as quickly as 12,000 RPMs. Its outer edge is impregnated with diamond powder, which cuts through the diamond.
Diamond powder must be added to the saw blade because a diamond is the hardest substance known to human kind, and only diamond is capable of sawing through diamond. This process can take many days depending upon the size of a particular diamond.
