Blocking

After cutting, the diamond is now ready to have its first facets applied. In order to ensure that the initial phase of the diamond achieves as much perfection and symmetry as possible, RAND uses fully computer-controlled machinery. While this machinery has the best possible accuracy in the tasks it performs, there are other tasks best performed by the human hand. That is why each RAND diamond utilizes a fusion of machine and human skill to achieve a high degree of polish, or final finish.

Blocking has often been compared to laying the foundation for a house. The parameters used by the blocking machinery are the exact parameters downloaded from each individual diamond's blueprint.

At the end of the blocking process the diamond has eight facets (four top and four bottom) and has begun to take on the proportions of the diamond.
